Are Chelski unstoppable now?
Imagine the first XI of Shevchenko leading the lines of a midfield of Lampard, J. Cole, Essien, Robben, Ballack backed by a defence of Terry, Carvalho, Ferreira, Del Horno and Cech. Having the likes of Gallas, Makelele, Kalou, Drogba, Crespo and that new Portugese keeper Mourinho signed on the bench. Okay, so Crespo might leave, along with Gallas, Huth, Shawn Wright-Philips (SWP), Duff and Eidur Gudjohnsen.
Which again proves my point that, unlike Wenger, Mourinho is incapable of bringing up youngsters. His latest signings were Ballack, Sheva and Henrique Hilario. I think Ballack would have bad luck, Sheva could do betta and Hilario would be 'Hilarious'. Anyway, besides the fact that they are all has-beens, with maybe if lucky 2 years of top-flight football left in them, they are all 30 years old this year. This shows Mourinho has no eye for talent.
Wenger is still the master at this, and you have to look no futhur than Fabregas or his best ever project a certain Henry. Rafa Benetiz is one for good young talent as well, recently has been bringing Sissoko into the Liverpool first team and building an all-star youth reserve squad dribbing with promise and this year bringing in - or trying to at least - Mark Gonzalez. Alex Ferguson had gone for proven youngsters such as Rooney and C. Ronaldo and groomed the class-of-all-conquering-1999 with the likes of Scholes, Giggs, Beckham, Keane etc, while Mourinho has gone for proven oldies.
I'd be disappoint if I was a Chelsea fan. Mourinho brings in oldies, and ignores the young talent waiting to grow. The SWP project went awefully wrong, while Glen Johnson or Diarra haven't been getting an game time. I think I've said this before, but Robben is on the decline. It reminds me of Real Madrid - won indeed won the Champions League and then went 3 seasons without winning anything. They have since gone back to basics and hired players such as Robinho and Baptista.
Chelsea is going to suffer the same fate if they are not careful. Powerful this or next year they might be. But soon they would be ageing oldies who have too big paycheques and names to drop from the team. And then you get a 33-Sheva, 33-Ballack, 31-Lampard, 34-Crespo, 36-Makelele and the lists goes on.
Don't the people with money ever learn?
