Drama indeed. The winning goal in stoppage time.
Just when Poland thought they would hang on for the draw, David Odonkor's pace found it's way past the backline, and a whipped cross was steered in by Oliver Neuville. Tremendous stuff from the Germans, heartbreak for the Poles.
I was predicting a comfortable win for Germany, but it wasn't to be. Though their goal was hardly threatened, they failed to break down a tough Polish defense. It was made even harder when Poland got a man sent off; making them resort to a 10-man defence. Wave after wave of German attacks finally brought the goal they deserved though in the 91st minute! What drama!
The games are just getting more exciting now, now that elimination can stare a nation in the face given results of the first game. It's a good time to be watching the tournament! I'm obviously happy Germany won if you remember my $100+ bet on them to win the cup. But getting through the group stage is only the beginning.
It's now time to look forward to tomorrow's games. Here are my predictions.
Ecuador vs Costa Rica... 1-0
England vs T&T... 2-0
Sweden vs Paraguay... 1-1
