The England game just finished and like I predicted they won. Though I was predicting a marginally more exciting match that would end 2-1 or 2-0, it wasn't to be. England looked happy to hold on to the 1-0 lead and in all honesty Paraguay never threatened to make them pay for their complacency.
My comments on the game are that England have to do much better if they even want to think about winning the cup. Lamps and Stevie G were resorting to long shots from range while Beckham, Neville and A. Cole resorted to long punts into the penalty box. Owen was rather ineffective while Joe Cole seemed the only spark in the England midfield. Nevertheless, it was an efficient win for the English, but they had better play better against the likes of Sweden!
I got my predicting about the upset last night too. I predicted Ecuador to win, and they did not let me down. I hope this means my punter skills are improving! Anyway, I was rather impressed with E. Mendez and A. Valencia of Ecuador while Carlos Tenorio and Austin Delgado were proving problems for the Poles upfront. I deserved victory for Ecuador, and they would have been considered unlucky had the two shots which the Poles hit the poles, if you don't mind the punt, had instead gone in. Well I hope you took the tip last night before it would have won you come handy money!
Later tonight features Trinidad & Tobago vs Sweden. Many experts feel that Trinidad and Tobago are a joke to be in the World Cup. I for one am a believer in supporting the underdog, but I'm sorry, this time I don't think the underdogs can pull it off. Unfancied Sweden, with a lack of big names (compared to the likes of England and Brazil) are a technically good side and have individuals who can gel as a team. This is the reason why some experts believe they can pip England for top spot in the group. I see a comfortable Swedish win. Highly possible by 1 1/2 goals.
The next match is Argentina vs Ivory Coast. No doubt that Argentina are very strong as a team on paper, and Ivory Coast are the unfancied underdogs. I see Ivory Coast matching up to Argentina though in a high-scoring game which probably might end a draw. I would guess something along the lines of 2-2. Otherwise Argentina might just edge it 2-3 or something close. But odds at 3.4 (Bet365.com) for a draw is a good bet!
Hope you all tip the right score! Drop more comments and predictions too ya? Come back often because of the World Cup, there will be updates daily!
